I watched the video twice - I loved it! I can see our team in the beginning stages of this with their own groups. I love the fact that they can be the "other voice" for the kids. I love how the kids know they have consistent people/faces to trust each week.

I know that community groups have changed our lives as a family. We've been a part of a small group of sorts for over 10 years. I could go on for hours about how it has been life changing for us, but the coolest thing for now is that it has affected our kids! They have begun to see that small group is important to us as a couple and they've even developed friendships with kids from the other couples in the group too! Our hope is that they will continue to seek out that same type of community in their own lives as they grow.

And what a better start than with UpStreet! I love how we are not allowing culture to compete with the sense of community.

I have been thinking about the questions Amy and Cheryl challenge us with each week [Was I excellent, was I helpful, was it fun] and this video gave me a fresh focus for these questions.

It is my desire to create community with the young girls and this video has prompted me to think about how I am going beyond the given curriculum each week into developing authentic and meaningful relationships. For me - this means taking time to do more than ask them about their week. It might mean sending them a letter during the week to let them know I am thinking about them. It might mean planning something "special" for our small group. I'm not sure what it might look like...but the video has left me thinking...

It's amazing how even the 1s and 2s are experiencing community. We can tell every week that they're getting more comfortable with us and with each other.
